Confessions of a Corporate Girlie: How I Actually Manage Burnout

The world wants us to be Super Women.“Go to school and get perfect grades!” “Settle down and have babies!” “Keep the house spotless and the kids fed!”Blah, blah, blah. I am so over it. We are expected to carry it all, especially in our careers. But let’s be real: it is absolutely draining. This is the exact feeling no one warns you about. You finally reach the peak of your career, life looks good on paper, and then—BOOM. It hits you like a ton of bricks. Suddenly, work is intolerable. You’re dreaming about spreadsheets, your mind is racing all night, and you can barely find the motivation to drag yourself out of bed. You ask yourself, “What is this? I’m not okay, but what can I even do? For a while, it feels hopeless. Welp, I found out the hard way: that ugly feeling is burnout. If you are stuck in that exact spot right now and don't know where to turn, I’ve got you. Here are a few things that actually helped me crawl out of that dark season.
1. Reclaiming My Mornings (Prayer & Journaling)
Before my burnout, my mornings started with a racing heart and an immediate scroll through work emails. Total chaos. To heal, I had to completely change my routine. Now, I dedicate my early mornings to prayer and journaling. It gives me a quiet space to pour out all that heavy, unspoken anxiety onto paper and ground myself before the rest of the world wakes up. If you are struggling to find peace, start by giving your first hour of the day to yourself, not your job.
2. Drawing a Hard Line (Work Stays at Work)
Let’s be real: the "Super Woman" in us loves to bring work home, answering emails at 9 PM from the couch. I had to learn the hard way that a home cannot be a sanctuary if it feels like a second office. I started setting firm boundaries. When I leave the office, work stays there. No taking laptops home, no notifications on my phone, and absolutely no work talk after hours. Protecting your physical home space is non-negotiable for recovery.
3. Healing in Nature (Hiking)
When you are burnt out, your brain feels like a computer with 50 tabs open. For me, hiking became the ultimate reset button. Getting out on the trails, breathing fresh air, and just moving my body without the pressure of a gym workout completely shifted my energy. Nature doesn't care about your deadlines or your career status. It just lets you be and I love it so much!
4. Giving Myself Something to Anticipate (Planning Ahead)
When you're drowning in a dark season, every single day feels identical and heavy. To break up that monotony, I started intentionally planning things to look forward to. It didn't have to be a massive, expensive vacation. Sometimes it was just booking a massage for the weekend, planning a coffee date with a friend, or scheduling a day trip. Having a little spark of joy on my calendar reminded me that life is so much bigger than my daily grind.
You Are Worth More Than Your Productivity
Look, sis, escaping the burnout trap isn’t going to happen overnight. It takes time to unlearn the lie that you have to do it all, perfectly, all the time. You are allowed to take off the cape. You are allowed to put yourself first.
If you are sitting in that heavy, hopeless place right now, please hear me: your worth is not tied to your productivity, your job title, or how much you can endure before you break. You deserve a life that feels good on the inside, not just one that looks good on paper.
Take a deep breath. Pick just one thing from this list to try today—whether it's closing your laptop at 5:00 PM sharp or spending five minutes journaling tomorrow morning. Step by step, you will get your spark back. You've got this, and I am right here cheering you on.
